Top three workshops to attend at Dubai's The Big 5 2017
Check out the key workshops and seminars we recommend you attend during this year’s The Big 5 2017 exhibition
Numerous conferences on topics such as sustainability, architecture, and construction materials will be held at The Big 5 2017 exhibition.
Additionally, the inaugural edition of The Big 5 Innovation in Precast Summit will be launched on 26 November, 2017.
The Big 5 2017 will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre between 26 and 29 November.
In the following pages, Construction Week outlines the top three conferences and workshops you must attend at the exhibition this year.
What: The Big 5 Talks
When: 26-29 November
This year’s The Big 5 Talks will see regional experts deliver educational and knowledge-sharing sessions focussed on the Middle East’s latest construction-related trends.
This year, the exhibition’s organisers have integrated the content of these educational sessions with the product sectors found across the show’s halls.
As a result, attendees of The Big 5 Talks will have the opportunity to hear regional leaders speak about mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP); architecture; sustainability; business; technology; and project management.
Key sessions that will be delivered as a part of The Big 5 Talks include a presentation on net-zero and near-net-zero energy buildings (26 November) by Darrel Strobel, managing director for MEP engineering at KEO International Consultants.
On 27 November, Ralf Steinhauer, director at RSP, will examine the decade-long evolution of regional architecture and construction as part of The Big 5 Talks’ architectural segment.
Similarly, Jonathan Mullan, director at Insite, will consider why some projects take a long time to complete, and may even “cost too much” (29 November). Mullan’s presentation
will represent one of this year’s project management sessions.
What: The EIC Summit
When: 26 November
The Excellence in Construction (EIC) Summit is designed to highlight the achievements of the region’s thought leaders and innovators.
This year, the event will feature a speech by Ahmed Al Khatib, vice president for real estate and delivery at Expo 2020 Dubai.
While 2016 was an important year for the team organising the world’s fair in terms of design, 2017 has seen construction-related momentum increase at the Dubai South site.
Al Khatib, who spoke at the Construction Week: Leaders in Construction UAE Summit 2017 in September, will highlight the Expo 2020 Dubai team’s ambitions to create a tangible economic impact through the global event.
What: Innovation in Precast Summit
When: 26-27 November
The Big 5 Innovation in Precast Summit is a two-day event that will feature precast experts providing technical information, alongside a dedicated trade fair for suppliers of concrete products.
The summit, which will be held between 11.30am and 4pm on the first two days of The Big 5 2017, will be free to attend for all pre-approved delegates from the concrete industry.
Topics due to be covered during the first day of the summit include ‘Earthquake resilience: performance-based seismic design of precast concrete structures’, and ‘State-of-the-art of modern precast construction technology: automation vs flexibility’.
Meanwhile, day two of the educational summit will feature sessions such as ‘Disruptive innovation: 3D printing and manufacturing trends of tomorrow’, and ‘Engineering innovations of precast concrete structures’.
Dr Abdullah Al Nuaimi, the UAE’s Minister of Infrastructure Development, will inaugurate The Big 5 Innovation in Precast Summit, on 26 November, 2017.
Commenting on the first edition of the event, Al Nuaimi said: “The Big 5 Innovation in Precast Summit will go a long way in advancing the infrastructure industry in the UAE.”
