Specialty chemicals firm Evonik has appointed Hendrik Schönfelder as president for Middle East & Africa (MEA).
Schönfelder's appointment follows the merger of the former regions Sub-Sahara Africa and the Middle East & North Africa into one regional platform.
After obtaining his doctorate in chemical engineering from Technical University Hamburg, Schönfelder began his professional career with BASF in 1995.
Schönfelder occupied various roles covering R&D, investment projects, Regional Sales and Global Business Management for the polyolefins business of BASF and its succession companies. In 2013, Schönfelder joined Evonik in Germany.
“I have worked on several projects in my career that covered the Middle East and Africa and developed a special affinity for the region,” he said.
“MEA is definitely a region that will witness substantial growth in the future and Evonik today has a platform that can support the industries to meet the demands that such growth creates,” Schönfelder added.
