CW Awards 2017: Winning health and safety initiative announced
ConstructionWeekOnline reveals the winner of its Health and Safety Initiative of the Year Award, which was presented at the Construction Week Awards 2017 in Dubai
BAM International’s Worker Wellness Programme was named Health and Safety Initiative of the Year at the Construction Week Awards 2017.
The Initiative was designed to eradicate the culture of blame and discipline, and cultivate an environment in which safety is considered the responsibility of everybody.
Our judges praised the initiative for its top-down approach, and its success in capturing a diverse range of wellness-related elements.
Commenting on BAM International's win, the company's area HSE manager, Jessica Rigley, said: "[The award] is not for the company. It’s for the workers. They will be absolutely be delighted."
Rigly explained that the company's Worker Wellness Programme covered health and safety in not only the workplace but also the workers' recreational, camp, and home facilities.
Dubai Aviation Engineering Projects’ (DAEP) Worker Engagement Programme was named this year’s Highly Commended Health and Safety Initiative.
Other shortlisted nominations included Aecom’s Life-Preserving Principles Campaign; Al Naboodah Construction Group’s Visible Felt Leadership programme; Carillion Alawi’s Safety Leadership in Carillion (Mission Smile) scheme; Drake & Scull International’s (DSI) High-Risk Activity Monitoring Board; Dutco Balfour Beatty’s ‘You Promised’ Campaign; and Kone’s Kone Safety Week initiative.
An independent panel of judges, comprising eight of the Middle East’s foremost construction experts, selected winners in 14 categories at the Construction Week Awards 2017.
