fmME delves below corporate strategy to understand what makes the region’s FM professionals tick

INTERVIEWS, Facilities Management

What does your role involve?

As the business support specialist at QBG FM it requires me to focus on compliance, technical competence and development across QBG business functions. My position involves day to day responsibilities for all aspects of the business which includes business development, marketing and brand awareness strategies — and designing the right technical solutions to meet customer needs.

What do you love most about your job?

The diversity of the FM industry and the people that are involved in it. I specially enjoy meeting people across the UAE and building relationships with them. Our business development team is like a family.

What is the most challenging aspect of your job?

The FM sector is challenging with constant economic and market changes. The most challenging aspect is the perception across the FM sector about marketing. Often enough, it is not seen as a function that can be responsible for significant operating mechanism as a proper foundation of sustainable competitive advantage.

What is the most memorable project and why?

There have been many memorable project wins and victories which makes it hard to single out one in particular. I consider each winning bid as my baby.

Our business development team works on a diverse portfolio of projects over many sectors in the UAE and Oman from arts and culture, governments buildings, oil and gas entities to residential and commercial developments. Each project is memorable in its own way.

Where do you see the FM industry in 5 years?

There will be increasing focus on energy management and conservation. Technical excellence will be a catchphrase that delivers this vital element. As the industry continues to grow, FM will have to become greener, smarter and involve more CSR activities and campaigns. QBG has always been at the forefront for discovering and implementing new CSR campaigns.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I’m a regular kick boxer, as it motivates and takes me to another level both physically and mentally. I also meditate, either solo or with a group, which gives me immediate relaxation and helps be achieve a state of calm.
