Dubai’s RTA to complete bridge project in Jan 2018
The bridge project, which extends from Al Khail Road to Financial Centre Road, is being developed to accommodate the expansion of Dubai Mall
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai has announced that a bridge project it is constructing in partnership with Emaar Properties is on track to complete and open in early January 2018.
The authority said in a statement that the project, which extends from Al Khail Road to Financial Centre Road, is being developed to support the expansion of Dubai Mall, allowing it to accommodate up to 100 million visitors annually.
Commenting on the bridge project, HE Mattar Al Tayer, director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of RTA, said: “The project encompasses the construction of a two-lane, one-way bridge extending 1,270m at a width of 11m to 15m, built on single columns crossing over the Dubai Water Canal.
“The project works include lighting and infrastructure works, such as shifting the impacted utility services like water, electricity, irrigation, sewage, and telecommunication lines.”
Al Tayer continued: “The bridge, which starts from the intersection of Ras Al Khor Road [and] Al Khail Road, encompasses adding two lanes extending 480m to the existing road to enable direct flow of traffic from Dubai-Al Ain Road to Al Khail Road via the upper deck of the Financial Centre Road.
“Works include providing an entry point for the parking terminal of the extension of Dubai Mall. The project will ease the flow of traffic along the Financial Centre Road and surface intersections, thus easing the pressure on the intersections of Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard.
“It will raise the capacity of the road to 4,500 vehicles per hour during peak hours, serve several development projects, and ease the pressure on the existing roads network,” added Al Tayer.
