UAE committee approves $75m road projects
A $73.2m construction contract, and two consultancy deals worth approximately $1.5m, have been approved to develop the UAE's road network
Road projects worth $74.9m (AED275m) have been approved by Follow-up Committee of Initiatives of the UAE President.
The committee, headed by Ahmed Juma Al Zaabi, deputy minister of Presidential Affairs, approved the contract for Phase 2 of a project to construct a road between Wadi Al Qour, and the road linking Lahbab Road and Nizwa Road.
The contract is valued at $73.2m (AED269m).
Additionally, deals worth approximately $1.5m (AED5.4m) were approved to deliver consulting services for two road projects.
One of the deals, worth $626,175 (AED2.3m), entails the delivery of consulting services for a project to link Al Seeji Road with Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Road.
Meanwhile, the second consultancy contract, worth $843,975 (AED3.1m), will include consultancy provision for the construction of a 470m tunnel linking Al Muraishid Road to the road that leads to Mohamed bin Zayed City in Al Hail, Fujairah.
The contracts follow the directives of UAE President, HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, with the support of HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs.
The projects are being implemented as part of the efforts to develop road infrastructure in the UAE and facilitate transportation, as well as to improve road safety and security, state news agency, WAM, reported.
