Ithra Dubai, a wholly owned subsidiary of Investment Corporation of Dubai (ICD), has completed a record concrete pour of 26,000 cubic metres over a 7,600m2 raft foundation footprint for the One Za’abeel in Dubai.
The concrete pour was competed during a ceremony last month that officially launched the construction phase of the project, according to a statement.
Taking an estimated 132 hours, the pour was one of the largest in the UAE.
Issam Galadari, director and CEO of Ithra Dubai, said: “With the appointment of ALEC Engineering & Contracting as the main contractor, the project entered an exciting phase of construction.
“One Za’abeel, will present a new kind of sustainable development for residents, tenants and visitors alike, offering an elevated lifestyle.”
The project comprises two adjacent towers, 67 and 57 stories high, respectively, constructed atop a retail podium and connected by a cantilevered floor perched 100 metres above the ground. One Za’abeel will also feature two hotels.
The concourse, dubbed The Linx, will be open to the public and will offer a choice of attractions, performances, Michelin Star restaurants, and lounges.
The three-storey retail podium at ground level, named The Gallery, will house retail outlets as well as several retail and leisure facilities.
UAE-based Alec was appointed lead contractor for the One Za’abeel in September 2017. The contract scope includes site excavation, preparatory works, and the construction of a seven-floor basement.
Kez Taylor, CEO of ALEC Engineering & Contracting, said: “One Za’abeel is an iconic and revolutionary construction project. It is a fantastic development, that will test the skills of building, and we are proud to be working alongside Ithra Dubai and the consultants to make this world class project a success.”
Located near the Dubai World Trade Centre roundabout, the project is due to be completed by the fourth quarter of 2020.
The One Za’abeel development includes a high-end residential component, apartments in single or duplex formats, and a commercial space suited for offices and multinational headquarters.
