Saudi Arabia’s Water & Electricity Company (WEC) has issued a Request for Proposals for the Rabigh-3 IWP desalination plant to meet growing demand for potable water in the Makkah region.

The company issued the RFP on Thursday to pre-qualified companies in the private sector, with an aim to add an additional 600,000 cubic metres of desalinated water to production. The Makkah region is the most densely populated area in the Kingdom.

The project is expected increase in the Kingdom’s water requirements to achieve the goals set forth by Saudi Vision 2030. WEC also plans to allow for more private sector involvement in the Kingdom’s development.

Rabigh-3 IWP will filter water using Reverse Osmosis (RO), which is energy efficient and constitutes the most advanced technology in the field.
