Emirates Electrical Engineering has been awarded a contract to build a 132/11KV substation at Damac Properties’ Akoya Oxygen development in Dubai.

The contract is the third deal to be awarded by Damac for the construction of substations at the 511ha master community. The first two substations were built by ABB and Jazeera Emirates.

According to the Dubai-headquartered developer, the new substation will power 2,888 villas and 855 apartments, and is expected to be commissioned within two years.

Commenting on the contract award, Mohammed Tahaineh, senior vice president for commercial at Damac, said: “This is the first major contract to be awarded in 2018, as we continue to accelerate construction development at Akoya Oxygen, to provide electrical supply for all residential units in Phases 6, 7, and 9.

“We are making positive progress with construction efforts at Akoya Oxygen and across all our developments, with more than $950m (AED3.5bn) in contracts awarded in 2017 alone.”

Located off the Umm Sequim Road extension and approximately 15 minutes from Damac Hills, Akoya Oxygen will feature residential properties surrounding an 18-hole championship golf course.

The master community will also consist of local plazas, with facilities like mosques, clinics, schools, nurseries, gyms, post offices, restaurants, and local grocery shops.

The 18-hole golf course will comprise two loops of nine holes starting and finishing at a clubhouse, hotel, driving range, and putting green.

Meanwhile, the property’s southern quarter will include a high-rise tower cluster, mid-rise residential apartments, and a local community precinct.
