Aluminium Bahrain (Alba) has announced the appointment of Dr Abdulla Habib Ahmed as the company’s acting chief operations officer (COO).

 According to Alba, Ahmed joined Alba in 1995 as a trainee engineer. In the last 22 years, he has held various supervisory and management roles in the company, including superintendent reduction line, research and development (R&D) manager, reduction lines manager, customer technical support manager, and director of reduction lines.

His most recent role was director of reduction Line 6 start-up, Alba said in a statement.

Commenting on Ahmed’s promotion, Tim Murray, Alba’s chief executive officer, said: “At Alba, we believe that the key to our success is to develop and promote our people from within the company, then harness their true potential.

“Abdulla has more than 20 years of diversified operations experience in Alba and showed great mettle during the Line 5 recovery situation. His appointment as the acting COO of Alba comes at a notable time as we progress on the Line 6 expansion project, and I am confident the executive team will greatly benefit with Abdulla in the new position.”

Ahmed has a PhD in chemical engineering - aluminium smelting from the University of New South Wales, in Australia, as well as an MBA from ESSEC and a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering.

Earlier this month, the company announced the appointment of Hassan Qader as manager for casthouse maintenance and services.
