SirajPower has announced signing a 20-year lease agreement with Al Abbar Aluminium, a subsidiary of UAE-headquartered façade company, Al Abbar Group.

Under the agreement, SirajPower will finance, build, and operate a solar system at Al Abbar’s steel and aluminium facility in Jebel Ali.

Once operational, the system will deliver almost 1MW of solar energy and help the facility to reduce its energy consumption by nearly 40%, SirajPower revealed in a statement.

According to SirajPower, the partnership falls within the Shams Dubai initiative of the emirate's electricity and water authority, DEWA.

SirajPower’s director, David Auriau, commented: “SirajPower’s portfolio has been growing steadily as we continue our commitment to deliver on Dubai’s plan to have 75% of electricity production come from clean energy.”

Meanwhile, Al Abbar Group’s chief executive officer, James Dickson, said: “Al Abbar is very pleased to align with SirajPower as part of [its] ongoing sustainable approach to the façade industry.

“Al Abbar has long followed LEED standards on its projects and is a corporate member of the Emirates Green Building Council. A core value to reflect in business is the UAE’s vision of a sustainable future, made possible by adopting renewable and clean energy sources.”

A partnership between Corys Environment, the environmental investment arm of Green Coast Enterprises, and Akuo Energy, a French independent renewable energy power producer, SirajPower aims to finance 50MW of solar rooftop projects in Dubai in 2018 as part of Shams Dubai.

The company recently installed a 1.1MW solar system on RSA Logistics’ rooftop in Dubai Logistics City, reportedly the first of its kind in Dubai South.
