District cooling services provideEmirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower) announced that it has submitted its proposal to host and organise the International District Cooling Conference (IDEA 2018).

If the proposal is accepted, it will be the third time for the company, after hosting IDEA in 2014 and 2016.

The move highlights the importance of this global event, as well as the UAE’s initiatives in spreading the idea of sustainable and green development through various means, including district cooling, the company said.

By hosting this conference, Empower aims to support Dubai's vision on the future of energy efficiency, and exploring the development of innovative models for future services.

Ahmed Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, said: “Dubai is witnessing significant development and tangible achievements, especially in environmental conservation, combatting climate change and innovation in energy efficiency.

"These have been employed to shape the future of the UAE, in line with sustainable development goals, the UAE Vision 2021 and the UAE National Agenda.”

“Empower’s quest to host this event in Dubai highlights the leading position of Dubai and the UAE as a destination [for] international events."

Bin Shafar added: "The conference will be a global platform to highlight the UAE's sustainability standards and infrastructure. The UAE was recently rated number one globally in 50 indices covering community and service sectors, according to the Global Competitiveness Index 2017-2018.”
