Dubai has completed the construction of three new fire stations, collectively worth $12.2m (AED45m), as part of drive to boost the number of emergency crews in the emirate.

The so-called Civil Defence stations are in Nad Al Shiba, Al Mizhar, and Jebel Ali. All three were built using sustainable materials. External lighting and water heating system for the three stations will be powered with solar energy.

Dubai Municipality said “all green building and sustainable architecture standards” had been adhered to when building the three stations. This is likely to please Emirati leaders, who want Dubai to become a dominant force in the fields of recycling and sustainable construction.

Regarding the design, all of the new fire stations have been built to have two floors. The ground level includes a reception area, lounge, hall, gym, dining room, dormitory, office, and maintenance rooms with a warehouse and a two-storey garage for the fire trucks. On the first floor there is an office for the station manager, as well as other offices, a dining room, first-aid area and a meeting room.

A central observation tower sites above the first floor.

Separately, A number of major and minor fire incidents in the last two years have driven the Gulf’s regional construction sector to look inward to enhance existing fire prevention methods.  The UAE’s updated fire and life safety code is expected to spur regional and international uptake in fire codes.
