How long have you been in your current role and where did you work before?

I’ve worked for Losberger De Boer for more than eight years. Initially, I was based in London, building infrastructure for the London 2012 Olympics. We delivered a range of projects, including a temporary airport terminal at Heathrow airport for arriving athletes, and all structures for the Athletes’ Village in the Olympic Park. In February 2013, I was transferred to the UAE to head-up and grow the Middle East business for, at the time, De Boer.

Following the joining of Losberger and De Boer in 2017, I became the managing director for the Middle East, Russia, and Central Asia. Prior to Losberger De Boer, I worked as a consultant in the UK, supporting businesses across technology, utilities, and construction.

What are the key challenges that you face in your current role?

While temporary structures and semi-permanent buildings are designed differently to their permanent counterparts – focusing more on lightweight materials with minimal permanent foundations – the technology has evolved so much that we can really deliver permanent-looking, -feeling, and -performing buildings. However, one of the big challenges is keeping synchronous with architects, clients, and designers, so their ideas do not push on outside the remaining constraints of our products and what is possible with our solutions.

We love coming up with new twists on our buildings, and balancing that against some of the more radical ideas that designers get energised about is a fun but challenging part of the role.

What is your most memorable professional achievement?

Working with customers to design venues with architectural appeal and incorporating ‘wow’ features inside and out, all based around a modular, off-the-shelf system, is really enjoyable. Couple that with the expression of surprise on customers’ faces when they see on site the promise of how fast we can complete a full building turn to a reality has to be the most enjoyable element of the job.
