Kuwait launches $60m renovation scheme for Al Zour power plant
Kuwait has signed a deal to launch a major renovation of its southern Al Zour power plant this year
Kuwait will implement a major renovation of its southern Al Zour power plant this year.
Kuwait's Minister of Oil and Minister of Electricity and Water, Bkheet Al-Rashidi, signed a contract to renovate the gas power plant on 18 March, 2018.
The renovation deal is worth $60m (KWD20m), and includes the cost of refurbishing all units of the power facility, as well as upgrading all equipment used on site to ensure it is as energy efficient as possible.
The gas-fired power station's renovation programme is expected to span 60 months, Kuwait's state news agency, KUNA, reported.
News of the power station's renovation launch comes three months after the government announced a $33m (KWD10m) refurbishment of the power station.
The $33m project was also given a 60-month time frame for completion.
It was not revealed whether the latest contract announcement is linked to the programme announced in December 2017.
