Main contractor for Sabah Rotana 'will be signed this month'

A main contractor for the five-star hotel Sabah Rotana will be signed before April, Raj Sahani, owner and chairman of RSG International told Construction Week.

After RSG International confirmed enabling work on its luxury hotel Sabah Rotana had been completed, Sahani said a “main contractor will be signed this month”.

Details including which company will be awarded the contract, its value, duration, or specific construction requirements were not disclosed.

A tender had already been issued for main construction works on the Sabah Rotana hotel, which will have 54 storeys, 536 rooms, three nightclubs, a gym, a swimming pool, and a wellness lounge, as well as other amenities for tourists and corporate guests.

Enabling work was carried out by Al Rabat Building Contracting Company LLC, further excavation work on the site is now underway. The project is around 5% complete and is scheduled to open in June 2020.

Speaking to Construction Week via email, Sahani also provided an update on the company’s plans for 2018 and beyond.

“The coming year brings in more progress for our upcoming projects,” he said.

“Currently, our main focus is the speeding up of Sabah Rotana construction activities. We are also working on a new hotel and hotel apartments project in Downtown Jebel Ali in the coming year. And our premium residential project, Burj Sabah, will also be completed in the first quarter of 2019.”
