Waterfront recreational facility opens at Dubai Design District
The Block offers a range of outdoor and leisure areas, including a basketball and volleyball court, a skate park, an outdoor gym, a climbing wall, and the city’s first urban beach
An open-air, waterfront recreational facility called The Block has opened at Dubai Design District (d3).
The Block offers a range of outdoor and leisure areas, including a basketball and volleyball court, a skate park, an outdoor gym, a climbing wall, and the city’s “first urban beach”, Dubai Design District said in a statement.
The facility is reportedly also the first canal-side recreational development in the city.
Dubai Design District chief executive officer Mohammad Saeed Al Shehhi said: “We are delighted to open The Block, an extension of our evolving community that firmly positions d3 as an innovative lifestyle destination.
“The space is unique to the region and can be used to host events for the d3 community. We welcome everyone to come and explore our ever-growing creative neighbourhood.”
The Block is accessible by water taxi and has a dedicated section for callisthenics, allows visitors to rent kickboxing, table tennis, and badminton equipment.
According to Dubai Design District, it developed the facility with sustainability in mind, recycling 27t of concrete that was used in the canal area during construction.
Landscape architect Desert Ink was commissioned to design the waterfront recreational area.
