Oman inks contracts to build 'food security' projects

A number of 'food security' projects are set to be implemented in Oman, following the signing of agreements by Oman Food Investment Holding Company (OFIC) and its subsidiaries.

The agreements signed included the first package for the initial construction works of Nama Poultry Co, which will cover more than 6,800ha of land in the Wilayat of Ibri, in the A'Dhahirah governorate.

A deal was also inked for the initial construction works of Al Bashayir Meat Co in the Wilayat of Thumrait, in the Dhofar governorate, ONA reported, adding that the project has an estimated development cost of $96.1m (OMR37m).

The project will include a factory for meat and meat derivatives processing.

The holding company also committed to carrying out feasibility studies on agricultural production and marketing, as well as the construction of a food innovation complex and food logistics company.

Quoting Rashid bin Salim Al-Masrouri, CEO of the Public Authority for Stores and Food Reserve, ONA noted that the agreements signed support OFIC’s aim of enhancing food security and self-sufficiency in the Sultanate.
