Nakheel’s $217m The Pointe, Palm Jumeirah set for Q4 2018 opening
The Pointe on Palm Jumeirah by Nakheel will be completed in Q4 2018
Construction of Nakheel’s lifestyle and entertainment destination, The Pointe, is nearly done, and the $217m (AED800m) sprawling site will open this year.
Master developer Nakheel said the 13ha restaurant and shopping area, located at the tip of the man-made Palm Jumeirah island, was nearly finished.
The Pointe has been years in the making, with the concept officially launched by Nakheel in 2012. It is now set to open in Q4 2018.
The Pointe feature a 1.5 km promenade, more than 100 restaurants, a dine-in cinema, a synchronised dancing fountain, a gym, beauty salons, and 1,600 parking spaces. Pedestrians can reach it via the Palm Monorail, which runs between the Atlantis resort and Al Sufouh.
Located 5km from the mainland at the tip of the Palm Jumeirah trunk, it offers waterfront dining, with views overlooking Atlantis The Palm.
Nakheel recently held an event to promote the Pointe where the chairman of the developer, Ali Rashid Lootah, used a speech to drum up excitement in the project.
“We are moving ever closer to opening one of the most eagerly-awaited destinations in Dubai,” he said.
Lootah described the The Pointe as “a must-see attraction” for residents and tourists alike, as the complex provides a “stunning, vibrant, and unique addition to Dubai’s dining, retail, and entertainment scene.”
The Pointe will be managed by Nakheel’s retail division, Nakheel Malls, which boasts a portfolio of shopping centres collectively spanning 157ha of leasable space.
Nakheel floated a tender to build the The Pointe in 2013.
In February 2014, the master developer awarded a $102m (AED375m) to Gulf Technical Construction Company (GTCC) to build The Pointe at Palm Jumeirah.
When it awarded the contract to GTCC, a subsidiary of Drake & Scull, Nakheel said The Pointe would be completed in 2016.
Freyssinet Gulf was the groundwork contractor for The Pointe.
