ERC begins construction of water project in Lawdar, Yemen

The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) on Tuesday placed the foundation stone of a water project in Lawdar, Yemen.

The project will benefit more than 30,000 people as part of the UAE humanitarian arm's activities marking the Year of Zayed.

The first stage of the project includes the digging of four wells with a depth of 50 feet, at a total cost of $182,000 (AED670,000).

The developments second stage will see the construction of a water transfer line and a large tank with a capacity of 500 cubic litres.

Eng. Saleh Baleedi, director-general of the Water and Sanitation Institution in Abyan, thanked the ERC, which has supported the local water and sanitation sector and had previously intervened in 2016 to support the water sectors of Zinjibar and Khanfar.
