Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) has signed an agreement with REI Holding Group and Haewon Medical Foundation Sejong General Hospital to develop the first Korean hospital in Sharjah.

The hospital will be equipped with the same kind of healthcare technologies being used in Sejong General Hospital, located in Seoul, South Korea.

It will specialise in open-heart surgery and cardiac care, according to state-run Emirates News Agency (WAM).

According to Shurooq, the newly signed agreement and the planned hospital project will help boost Sharjah's position as a healthcare destination across the GCC and the wider MENA region.

Commenting on the agreement, Marwan Al Sarkal, CEO of Shurooq, said: "This is another excellent example of foreign investment in Sharjah’s healthcare industry and demonstrates once again the appeal of the emirate on a global scale.

"The republic of Korea is well-established as one of the world’s most successful healthcare providers, particularly in specialist medicine. The advantages of this project are not only in providing some of the best cardiac care available to residents, but [also in providing] enormous benefits to Sharjah’s economy in terms of attracting medical tourism."

“Our partnership with Sharjah in [the] healthcare sector is an important part of diverse and yet specific Sharjah-Korea partnerships encompassing R&D, education, tourism, and other sectors."

Remarking on the hospital’s debut in the UAE, Jinsin Park, chairman of Haewon Medical Foundation Sejong General Hospital, said: "This is a monumental opportunity for us, celebrating our […] access to UAE markets through Sharjah."

"The new hospital will feature the latest facilities and medical services, which will play a crucial role in battling various types of cardiac diseases and issues that exist within patients in Sharjah and the wider region."
