Is the skills gap widening in the Middle East's construction market?
Is the skills gap widening in the Middle East's construction market?

Results from Construction Week's 2018 Skills Gap Survey suggest employers are falling short by not providing enough career development opportunities to their staff.

In the latest episode of Construction Week Viewpoint, the exclusive results from the inaugural CW Skills Gap Survey go under the microscope.

More than half of the survey respondents said that they did not believe their employer provided enough career development opportunities, while four in 10 received no training last year.

Compounding this, nearly three quarters of respondents (72%) said colleagues struggled to efficiently fulfill key tasks last year, suggesting a widening skills gap in the market.

The survey assessed 132 construction professionals from local, regional, and international companies in the Middle East, on the level of training and career growth opportunities provided by employers.

In the sixth episode of Construction Week ViewpointConstruction Week’s deputy editor, Oscar Rousseau, and ConstructionWeekOnline’s editor, Jumana Abdel-Razzaq, discuss the state of training and development in the regional construction industry.

You can listen to the podcast on your phone, desktop, or tablet device at midday every Monday to hear insight and commentary on a broad range of topics, including solar energy projects, the drop in construction-related accidents, and dispute resolution.

Episodes are short and designed to fit in with the schedules of the Middle East’s construction professionals, providing an insightful, bite-sized podcast free to listen to on SoundCloud.
