Dubai Hills Mall reaches 60% completion mark
Emaar's 650-shop Dubai Hills Mall is more than halfway complete
Structural work on Emaar’s Dubai Hills Mall is 60% complete, and the 650-shop retail destination is on track for delivery.
Dubai Hills Mall spans an area 185,806m² and is located in Dubai Hills Estate, a mega-development joint venture between Emaar Development and Meraas.
The shopping centre has reached “new construction milestones” with more than half of the structural work completed, and the start of steel works for an 18-screen cinema and a glass skylight under way.
ALEC is the main contractor on the site. Its scope of work includes construction and completion of Dubai Hills Mall, plus external works, services, and landscaping.
Mock-ups for the mall’s façades, skylights, shopfronts, washrooms, and finishes have started, Emaar said.
Dubai Hills Mall will have a solar harvesting system that will generate 6.5 megawatts of electricity per year, saving $32.6m (AED120m) in energy costs over 25 years.
Emaar Development said its solar shading system would make the mall “one of the most sustainable retail destinations”, and will be linked to the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority’s energy grid.
Managing director of Emaar Properties, Ahmad Al Matrooshi, said he was happy with the progress of the mall.
“The mall will be a vibrant new addition to Dubai’s retail scene, offering retailers the opportunity to be part of one of the largest mega-developments in the city. We are working with leading consultants and contractors for the on-schedule opening of the mall.”
In addition to the 650 shops and 18-screen cinema complex, Dubai Hills Mall will have a 5,899m² supermarket, and a car park with space for more than 7,000 vehicles.
It is one of several malls that Emaar is currently working on in Dubai.
Last month, the developer opened its 100-shop Spring Souks retail centre in its master-planned community development The Springs.
Spring Souks has approximately 23,000m² of leasable space split across two floors. It will also include a gym and a six-screen cinema, although a date for completion of these leisure facilitites has not been disclosed.
