Mashrabiyas serve a social, environmental, and architectural function.

The modernist reinterpretation of mashrabiyas is discussed in the latest Construction Week Viewpoint episode on architecture and design.

Mashrabiyas are synonymous with Arabic architecture and have been used as early as the Middle Ages. But they are used to be more than just pleasing to the eye, serving crucial social and environmental functions as well.

In the latest episode, the CW podcast hosts talk about how mashrabiyas continue to be used in modern construction projects from the Abu Dhabi Louvre to Apple's flagship store at Dubai Mall.

The podcast is hosted by Construction Week’s deputy editor, Oscar Rousseau, and ConstructionWeekOnline’s editor, Jumana Abdel-Razzaq.

Listeners can tune in from their handheld devices at noon every Monday to learn more about the biggest issues in the business, including the decline in major onsite accidents, why exclusive CW statistics point to a growing skills gap in the Gulf, and the latest hyperloop updates.
