Facilities management (FM) contracts have been awarded for Emaar's Dubai Mall and newly opened Springs Souk, as well as Dubai Airports' two aviation hubs in the emirate.

UAE-based Farnek has won both contracts, which form part of its recent awards worth $43m (AED157m).

Construction Week has requested Farnek for details of the time period within which it received these contracts.

In addition to Emaar and Dubai Airports, Rakbank, Abu Dhabi Municipality, and MAG 5 Boulevard are also among the clients and projects for which Farnek has won work.

The FM company is mobilising 1,170 additional staff and technicians to deliver these contracts, which entail the provision of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP), cleaning, waste management, and security services.

Farnek's new three-year agreement with Dubai Mall will see 500 of its staff deliver soft services for the facility, including its Fashion Avenue and leisure and entertainment areas.

The company will also incorporate a waste management strategy for Dubai Mall, using a shopping mall benchmarking study that it launched earlier this year.

The project was designed to evaluate and provide a benchmark for the energy, water, and waste performance of malls.

On another Emaar project, Springs Souk, Farnek will deliver MEP, specialist cleaning, and defect liability period (DLP) management services through a one-year contract.

Meanwhile, the FM company's three-year deal with Dubai Airports will see 350 of its employees work on engineering operations for both Dubai International Airport (DXB) [pictured] and Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC).

Markus Oberlin, the chief executive officer of Farnek, said the Dubai Airports deal will see Farnek's employees using smart watches to provide real-time tracking and transparency.

Farnek’s aviation sector portfolio also includes Emirates airline and Etihad Airways.

Farnek's other recent contract wins include a two-year deal to deliver soft services for 38 Rakbank branches across the UAE, with 100 staff members due to work on the project.

The contract is an addition to Farnek's existing deal with Rakbank for its head offices in Ras Al Khaimah and Dubai Silicon Oasis.

In Dubai South, Farnek will deliver integrated FM and home maintenance work for MAG 5 Boulevard. The company will be responsible for cleaning, security, and DLP management in common areas, while its home maintenance division, Hitches and Glitches, will provide snagging, handover, and DLP management for 500 apartments.

Additionally, the FM company has expanded its existing portfolio of work with Abu Dhabi's Musanada through a four-year deal with Abu Dhabi Municipality to provide MEP and managing agent services.

Commenting on these contract wins, Farnek's Oberlin said: "We endeavour to add value whenever and wherever we can, by being innovative and adopting the latest technology in a sustainable manner, to deliver our promise to our customers."
