The announcement follows Aldar's previous confirmation that Marriott would refurbish and operate the property that is currently known as Viceroy Abu Dhabi

The Viceroy hotel brand is set to be extended through an Abu Dhabi property.

Aldar Properties, the UAE capital-headquartered development company, said it is "working with Viceroy Hotel Group" on a Viceroy-branded property for the emirate.

Further details of the project have yet to be revealed.

Bill Walshe, chief executive officer of Viceroy Hotel Group, said his team was “excited by what the next chapter brings” for his team.

“Aldar has been and will continue to be a very important partner. We look forward to working with them in the drive to position Abu Dhabi globally.”

Jassem Busaibe, chief investment officer of Aldar, said the project would expand the development giant’s portfolio of 11 hotels.

The announcement follows Aldar's confirmation from earlier this week that it had appointed Marriott International to manage its hotel on Yas Island, which is currently managed as Viceroy Abu Dhabi.

Effective 1 July, 2018, Marriott International will assume operations of the Yas Island hotel, which will go through a refurbishment period before opening under the W Hotels brand.

Exactly a year ago, on 21 June, Five Holdings, formerly known has SKAI Holdings, dropped the Viceroy brand from its hotel projects in the UAE, according to a company statement.

The real estate and hospitality group established its own hospitality subsidiary called Five Hotels and Resorts, that would operate four hotels and residences in Dubai by 2020, according to Construction Week's sister title, Hotelier Middle East.
