Kingspan sees ‘huge potential’ in the UAE property
Kingspan is racing ahead of its competitors thanks to its diverse portfolio of products and services available in the Middle East, especially its unique Quadcore technology
Kingspan is a dynamic, diverse business, with a global reach. The group comprises five divisions, insulated panels, insulation, light air, and environmental and access floors. Insulated Panels is the company’s largest division.
Kingspan Insulated Panels has been supplying into the Middle East for over 30 years, and in the last 10 years, it has made acquisitions to expand its scope of regional work. More recently, Jim Loughran, regional managing director at Kingspan Insulated Panels proudly points out, Kingspan is the first manufacturer to achieve Dubai Civil Defence’s (DCD) approval in the UAE for the 2017 edition of the Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice.
He adds: “Kingspan has always been at the forefront of technology in the insulated panel industry, so to pass all of the requirements in the 2017 UAE Fire and Life Safety Code is a huge achievement for us, and is also vital to our success in the region. Adding the FM status to our product range further strengthens our compliance to the UAE fire code and the insurance industry globally.”
It is this unmatched focus that is driving Kingspan’s growth in the region. Recently, the company unveiled its largest single-infrastructure investment in the Middle East – a manufacturing plant in Dubai that will bring the region up to date with Kingspan’s latest manufacturing processes and equipment. Kingspan’s Dubai-based managing director, Lance Wilson, calls the investment a major landmark in the development of the company’s UAE operations, and says it “sends a big message to the marketplace about our ambitions”.
Lance Wilson says Kingspan sees huge potential in the UAE’s booming property sector and the wider GCC. Commenting on the new plant, he continues: “This investment demonstrates how serious we are about growing in the Middle East and beyond. Dubai is now the prime hub for the entire Middle East and Africa, dovetailing with our operation in Turkey.”
The new manufacturing plant is able to produce the company’s most-advanced insulated panels, using its formidable Quadcore technology. Quadcore is Kingspan’s next-generation insulation core, and in the world of insulated panels, this innovation, with its distinct grey micro-cells, powers the industry’s highest combined performance.
“Kingspan’s Quadcore insulation technology was developed in-house and launched in 2015,” Mick Martin, sales director at Kingspan, says. “It provides long lasting, unrivalled thermal performance, superior fire protection and enhanced environmental credentials and is supported by our exceptional guarantee.”
Kingspan’s DCD-approved product ranges now include its controlled environment series, in addition to its exterior roof, and wall cladding and standing seam systems. Jim Loughran says he welcomes the implementation of the new UAE fire code, adding that “the requirements for Kingspan Quadcore insulated sandwich panels are embedded in the 2017 Fire and Life Safety Code of Practice”. Kingspan is also the only regional manufacturer to achieve the classification Bs1-d0 when tested to BS EN 13501-1 smoke emission classification, which demonstrates the superior fire performance of its solutions.
To achieve the UAE fire code’s requirements, its panels have been subjected to a test regime comprising the BS EN 13501-1:2007+A1:2009, which covers the Fire Classification of Construction products and building elements. Classification using test data from reaction to Fire Tests (EN ISO 11925-2 and EN 13823). Additional tests passed by Kingspan include the ASTM D 1929-16: Standard Test Method for Determining Ignition Temperature of Plastics (above 343 degrees), and the NFPA 285 – Standard Fire test Method for Evaluation of Fire Propagation Characteristics of Exterior Non-Load Bearing Wall Assemblies containing Combustible Components.
The company has also achieved the BS EN 13501-5 – Fire Classification of Construction products and building elements – Part 5: Classification using data from external fire exposure to roof tests qualification.
The company has already enjoyed successful business partnerships in the Middle East, with its standing seam systems installed at high-profile regional project locations, such as Abu Dhabi Airport. Recently, the company was also awarded the roof contract for the new Kuwait International Airport.
As a global leader in the design, development, and manufacture of products and solutions for advanced building envelopes, energy efficiency is in the company’s DNA – from manufacturing the most thermally efficient and air-tight insulated panel building envelopes to providing services that support sustainable building techniques.
