Building occupants can now control glass tint with simple voice commands, after SageGlass’s electrochromic technology was integrated with Amazon Echo.

In a statement, global design and manufacturer Saint-Gobain, the producer of SageGlass, said its integration with Amazon Echo provides “occupants with additional flexibility so they can control the dynamic tinting of the glass without the need for facilities management intervention, a wall, or mobile app”.

This offering is expected to be integrated into larger building management systems, Saint-Gobain added, so building owners and facilities managers can manage SageGlass along with other voice-enabled smart devices in the building.

Occupants can make statements such as ‘Alexa, ask SageGlass to reduce glare’, or ‘Alexa, ask SageGlass to let the warm sunshine in’, and watch the glass tint in accordance with the command.

Speaking on the move, Alain Garnier, manager for sales and business development at SageGlass Middle East, said: “The use of technologies such as voice commands in buildings is growing in popularity as owners place more emphasis on occupant comfort, convenience, and productivity.

“SageGlass can already be integrated with most building management systems and controlled via a mobile app, so the next natural technological progression for our dynamic glass is the use of voice commands as an added convenience to building owners and occupants.”

The news comes seven months after SageGlass announced its eponymous smart electrochromic glass technology will be installed in Dubai Municipality’s $272.3m (AED1bn) Mohammed bin Rashid (MBR) Library project.

SageGlass revealed these details ahead of the Windows, Doors, and Façades event, to be held in Dubai between 23 and 26 September, 2018.
