Dubai-based real estate developer Nakheel has awarded a $6.5m (AED23.7m) piling contract for its mixed-use Palm 360 project at Palm Jumeirah.

According to a statement by the master developer, the Dubai branch of Germany-headquartered Bauer Spezialtiefbau GmbH won the tender, with works specified under the contract expected to take four months to complete.

The contract’s scope includes driving almost 600 piles as far as 54m below-ground in preparation for the construction of Palm 360, which is set to be the tallest structure on Palm Jumeirah.

The ‘milestone’ was marked on 9 October at Expo Real in Munich, where the developer is currently exhibiting $15.8bn (AED58bn) worth of projects, including Palm 360.

The news comes nearly seven months after Nakheel released the tender for the project's ground preparation works.

Nakheel said the construction tender for the project is expected to be released in Q1 2019, with project completion expected in 2021.

Located on Palm Jumeirah’s western crescent, Palm 360 will house what the developer says will be the world’s largest sky pool, connecting the two towers 170m above ground.

The project will also feature, following an agreement with Accor Hotels in December last year, the Raffles Palm Dubai Hotel, with 125 hotel rooms, and Raffles Residences, home to 331 units.

The latter will include 16 penthouses spanning up to 12,000ft2, each with its own infinity pool, gym, home theatre, and panoramic views of Dubai.
