Arada has unveiled smart city plans at Sharjah smart city megaproject Aljada.

Arada has announced smart city plans for its urban megaproject Aljada in Sharjah, which the developer says will be one of the UAE's smartest cities once complete.

In a statement, Arada said the early stages of the 223ha Aljada Smart City Project will see its development team focus on five key areas – mobility, utilities, telecommunications, the ‘circular economy’, and waste management.

“All these areas will be supported by ultra-secure, high-end digital infrastructure that will be managed centrally within the community,” the developer added, noting it was “in negotiations with several multinational companies” with extensive experience in smart technology.

Launched in September 2017 by HH Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, the $6.5bn (AED24bn) Aljada development will be delivered in phases from 2019, with the entire project is expected to be completed by 2025.

Arada said it is has “swiftly become Sharjah’s fastest-selling residential community”.

Echoing the UAE’s wider sustainability efforts, the new megaproject will feature a ‘Sustainability Lane’, reserved for the use of the Aljada’s internal public transport network of environment-friendly buses.

The use of these ‘hop-on hop-off’ buses, it added, will be free for residents and visitors, with the network serviced by smart bus stops that will provide real-time information on the city's event calendar.

Arada said Aljada complements the developer’s recent decision to launch Sharjah’s first smart homes at megaproject Misk Apartments.

The developer added: “The announcement is also fully in line with Arada’s promise to transform the future of Sharjah not only by creating exceptional communities but also by helping to build the local knowledge economy, as evidenced by the recent partnership with American University of Sharjah, which will see the latter’s students designing a pavilion in Aljada.”
