Construction Week In Focus | S02E28: Sports construction update
The world's largest sports mall is coming to the Middle East, which is already the home of the world's tallest scoreboard
Dubai looks set to bag another world record as the development of Sport Society, the world's largest sports mall, is announced. Upon completion, the mall is expected to become an important destination for Dubai Fitness Challenge.
The fitness challenge, envisioned by announced HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of the Executive Council, encourages residents and visitors of the city to conduct 30 minutes of exercise for 30 days, with a view to making Dubai the world’s most active city.
Sport Society, located next to Deira City Centre, will include “one of the largest bowling centres in the UAE”, in addition to a gym, cricket simulators, climbing walls, a full-size National Hockey League (NHL) ice rink, and a gymnastics and soft play area.
But that's not all for sports construction in the Middle East, and regional architecture and real estate experts understand that sports, and particularly football, are important to locals and expats alike.
Take the example of Emaar's Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building that, during 2018 Fifa World Cup in Russia, became the world's tallest scoreboard as well.
These developments are discussed in the latest episode of Construction Week In Focus, hosted by Construction Week's deputy editor and senior reporter, Oscar Rousseau and Jack Ball.
