The Netherlands will reveal the design of its “innovative” Expo 2020 Dubai pavilion on 9 December.

Little is known about the concept behind the pavilion that the Dutch contingent claims will unite water, energy, and food to create a unique and striking structure.

However, as with similar expo-related country pavilions such as the ones for the US and Finland, a consortium of companies is involved in the design and construction of the Dutch pavilion.

The Dutch project's consortium includes Expomobilia, V8 Architects, Kossmann.dejong, and Witteveen+Bos, a team that was selected after a tender was floated for the project by the Dutch government earlier this year.

According to a statement on Kossmann.dejong's website, the country pavilion will have a “circular climate installation that fits seamlessly with the theme of uniting water, energy, and food chosen by the Netherlands”.

The company added that pavilion visitors would be greeted by a “sensory experience of natural phenomena”. Additional details of this element will likely be provided when the consortium unveils further details of the design at the Ritz-Carlton in Dubai.

Dutch Commissioner General for Expo 2020 Dubai, Hans Sandee, will be present at the ceremony, as will broadcaster Richard Dean.

The Netherlands is one of 190 nations participating in the first expo in the Middle East, Africa, and South Asia. The significance of the megaproject was recently reiterated when HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai visited the 4.3km² expo site.
