Expo 2020 praises Dubai Civil Defense after minor roof fire
Expo 2020 Dubai said on Twitter that a "minor" on-site fire was put out quickly by the Dubai Civil Defense team
Expo 2020 Dubai has praised the actions of the Dubai Civil Defence who successfully dealt with a fire at the construction site earlier today.
“Thanks to all who dealt with a minor fire on the roof of a building at the expo site earlier today,” said Expo 2020 Dubai on its official twitter handle at 5.22pm on 11 December.
The post continued: “Dubai Civil Defense responded rapidly, and together with the Expo Health and Safety Team put the fire out quickly. No injuries and our work continues.”
When approached for comment on the potential cause of the fire, a spokesperson for Expo 2020 Dubai told Construction Week: “Our internal investigations have begun and remains ongoing. We would not be able to pre-judge any investigation at this time.”
The news comes less than a year until the complex building and infrastructural works on the 4.38km2 site need to be finished.
Speaking to Construction Week in September, Ahmed Al Khatib, Expo 2020 Dubai’s senior vice president of real estate and delivery, said an “impressive pace of progress” has been maintained since early work on the project, located in Dubai South, began in 2015.
Foundations and structural works are now complete within the three Thematic Districts. Moreover, all concrete works for the districts have been completed, with about 243,000m³ of concrete poured.
Precast production and installation is now taking place, with façade, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, and public-realm works also in progress. Khatib said the Phase 1 infrastructure package, which includes work for the Expo Village and the Dubai 2020 Metro Line, is almost complete: “Our Phase 2 infrastructural works will be completed in 2019.”
