Support services group, Alfred McAlpine, has won contracts worth over US $225 million (£120 million) in the UK.

The largest of these is a $75 million package from Tie Ltd to deliver the protection and diversion of telecommunications, gas, water and electricity services required for the construction of the Edinburgh tram network.

The company has also secured a series of construction contracts worth a combined value of more than $150 million.

These include a $48 million contract to build one of the UKs first new generation primary healthcare centres in Aldershot, a $33 million contract to build a Crowne Plaza Hotel in the Smithfield area of Manchester and an $18 million contract awarded by the Welsh Assembly to upgrade the A470 between Blaenau Ffestiniog and Cancoed in North Wales.

Other contracts include a $28 million award from the Highways Agency, under its M4 Technology Framework contract, to construct message sign bases and the associated communications infrastructure between junctions 14-15 and 16-18 on the M4 motorway.

“We continue to be encouraged by the amount of new business opportunities open to us, and this enables us to maintain our selective approach to the sort of work we bid for, said Ian Grice, group chief executive of Alfred McAlpine.

“These new contracts ... emphasise the extent of our offering to the built environment and our ability to develop solutions which meet the exact requirements of our clients.
