Skanska has won a contract worth US $43 million (SEK305 million) for the construction of a shipping channel in the Czech Republic.

The project is being conducted in consortium with Czech company OHL ŽS.

The contract covers the construction of a 3.2km, 57m-wide shipping channel on the Elbe River near the city of Prelouc. It also includes the construction of a ship lock and anti-flood bridges. The new channel will enable navigation along the river to the city of Pardubice, east of Prague.

Work will begin in the spring and is scheduled for completion in June 2011.
