Investigations are underway after the roof of a car park under construction collapsed on Tuesday, killing one and injuring three.

Around 200 workers were on the site of the La Solarium building at Dubai Silicon Oasis when the roof of the first floor of the underground car park collapsed.

"They were casting a 500m2 slab and one part - not the whole slab - collapsed," said Yousef Madi, vice president-technical of Credo Investments, the project developer.

Madi added that the reason for the structural failure is not yet clear, but that an investigation would take around three days to complete.

The contractor is Sun Engineering & Contracting.
