India order wins for ABB

ABB is supplying a range of power and automation solutions to Indian steelmaker JSW Group in orders worth US$56 million (AED205 million).

ABB is supplying a range of power and automation solutions to Indian steelmaker JSW Group in orders worth US$56 million (AED205 million).

The firm will provide solutions for two 330MW power generation facilities in Bellary, Karnataka. The work will include the electrical balance of plant, with technology to improve the performance and reliability of power delivery at the facilities.

The contracts also include the provision of equipment for plants located at Vasind, near Mumbai and Salem, Tamil Nadu.

 

JSW is aiming to almost double its steel capacity from 3.8 to 6.8 million tonnes per year; the ABB contracts are intended to facilitate this expansion.

ABB will supply substation equipment, transformers and an electricity network management system based on supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) technology. The contract will also include protection and control systems, plus medium and low voltage switchgear.

Excess electricity will be fed into the 400kV grid using the latest control and monitoring equipment to help manage the distribution network. ABB will also provide process automation for the steel plant to ensure energy efficiency.
