Siemens has signed a US $163.3 million (AED600 million) contract with Abu Dhabi Transmission and Despatch Company (Transco) to build a 400kV high voltage substation on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi

Siemens has signed a US $163.3 million (AED600 million) contract with Abu Dhabi Transmission and Despatch Company (Transco) to build a 400kV high voltage substation on Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi.

The substation will provide electrical supply for the 27 million m2 development and is expected to be completed in 2008.

"One of our initial issues to solve will be the logistics of moving very large equipment to the island," said Peter Fuchs, CEO, Siemens.

"Saadiyat Island is a remarkable project, both for its scope and the nature of the development itself. We are very excited to be part of bringing this vision to reality."

Saadiyat Island's infrastructure will cost an estimated $1.5 billion. The project is located 500m off mainland Abu Dhabi.
