Last week, around 400 construction workers in the Al Qusais district of Dubai protested against labour fees and living expenses being deducted from their salaries.

Lieutenant Riyad Al Shafi, representative of Dubai Police Human Rights Department and Member of the Permanent Committee for Labour Affairs in Dubai (PCLAD), said that it is illegal to make workers pay for their own work permit fees and it is the company's responsibility to pay for the cost of labour accommodation.
