International exhibitors will showcase ‘green’ technologies at the construction event of the year, DMG world media has announced.

Suppliers and manufacturers from the Netherlands to China will promote their products to contractors and developers on the prowl for sustainable solutions.

“The Big 5 is committed to advancing high-performance, energy efficient green building solutions and environmentally friendly technologies,” said Simon Mellor, vice president of construction for DMG world media, organisers of the event.

Malaysia’s Hume Cemboard Industries will be launching a new type of environmentally friendly cement, which is 100% asbestos free – particularly topical given the recent debate in the UAE about introducing asbestos-use regulations.

The firm’s product is also fire, moisture and weather resistant and sound insulated.

Meanwhile, Unicel Architecture from Canada will be showcasing is new Vision Control Mini – a one inch airspace louvered insulating glass unit for door insertions.

The unit is environmentally friendly as it helps reduce energy consumption, maximises natural light, controls solar heat gain and reduces maintenance requirements.|

In addition, VSL, a post tensioning company originated in Switzerland and operating in the Middle East will also promote its eco-friendly systems.

“By using post tensioning instead of reinforced concrete on a typical high rise tower, you save on structural concrete cross sections, allowing for thinner floors and slabs, thus giving rise to immediate reductions in concrete volumes and the related CO2 from the cement production,” said VSL deputy general manager Stephen Burke.
