Cost overrun era is thing of the past
Proving your project is efficient could avoid cancellation says expert
Cost control and efficiency drives are absolutely essential to the health of your project in the current climate, said Abdelrahman Muneer, development manager at Tekla.
“Now more than ever it is vital that project managers can display to all the involved parties, from the end client and financiers right through to the MEP and labour contractor firms that the project is being run as efficiently as possible with no wastage in the system,” said Muneer.
“It’s not just about good management - being able to display this information and prove that the project is being well managed from the outset could be the difference between a successful venture and the whole thing being cancelled.”
Tekla is using Big 5 to promote its 3D intelligent building modeling solutions, a software system which can help highlight inefficiencies and reign in waste. “The Tekla Structures products can be used at every stage of the project, from preconstruction, through the build planning stages right up to and including site management of labour and equipment,” said Muneer.
The strong emphasis on cost control offering has seen the firm buck trends across the Middle East, and has seen demand for its products grow in 2009. “Being able to centralize, monitor and clearly display everything at every stage of the project, to the architects, structural engineers and MEP contractors means that developers can really eliminate waste and that has become the industry watch-word in 2009, and that mindset will definitely continue into 2010.”
Tekla Structures software has been used on some of the most iconic and complicated build projects in the UAE. “The Burj Dubai and Aldar’s circular, coin-like headquarters in Abu Dhabi are two of the best known projects that we have been involved in,” said Muneer.
The company has seen such robust demand throughout this year that regional expansion is in full swing. “We are putting the final details together for the office in Saudi Arabia, and the next market to establish in will be Abu Dhabi,” explained Muneer.
“Ultimately wherever you go in the Gulf today, the mindset that developers can get away with massive cost overruns is simply a thing of the past. By using intelligent solutions like Tekla Structures, projects are far more likely to be on time and on budget.”
