Bahrain's Nass Contracting has submitted the lowest bid of US $26.8 million (BD10.1 million) for the development of the kingdom's 'Bahrain Map' road project.

According to the Bahrain Tender Board, other bidders included a joint venture of Italy's Federici Sterling and Batco and the local Ahmed Mansoor Al A'Ali, Hafeera Contracting and Haji Hassan Group.

The highest bid of $54.1 million was made by Malaysia's Gamuda Berhad.

The bids will be processed over the next eight weeks, and work on the project will be completed in 14 months.

Bahrain Map is part of the Ministry of Public Works and Housing's plan to construct flyovers at Bahrain's three major junctions - Bahrain Map, Umm Al Hassam and Mina Salman, with the aim to facilitate the traffic flow between Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Nass Contracting is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Bahrain's construction and contracting group Nass Corporation.

Road projects worth more than $531.91 million are currently under construction in Bahrain.

A left-turn flyover in the Seef area has also been put to tender, along with a flyover and underpass at Isa Town gate.

Another major scheme launched by the ministry to reduce traffic congestion on key roads, is the replacing of roundabouts with traffic signals.

The project to replace the Salmaniya roundabout with a new traffic signal is nearly complete.
