Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has started civil engineering works on a bulk supply point sub-stationed at the Diyar Al Muharraq development site.

In a statement, the move was described as a "major boost to Diyar Al Muharraq's development plans".

Aaref Hejres, CEO of Diyar Al Muharraq, said: "This is a welcome step taken by the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) and we are grateful to the authority for including our project as part of their plans. This will truly help us in further developing our infrastructure.

"Due to the sheer scale of our project, it goes without saying that we'll require a large amount of power in the near future. The bulk supply point will be a huge boost for us in terms of carrying on with the timely completion of our work schedule.

The first primary substation will start its operations towards the 3rd quarter of 2011. This will be in line with Diyar Al Muharraq's schedule to install a 66KV substation at the project location by the end of 2011.
