Carillion takes DFC villa deal

Al Futtaim Carillion has won a US $46 million (AED170 million) contract to build the first phase of 650 villas at Dubai Festival City's Al Badia Hillside Village.

The contract involves the construction of 105 villas initially, with the potential of securing deals for the remaining villas, according to Richard Polkinghorne, general manager, development, Dubai Festival City.

He said that a major factor that led to Al Futtaim Carillion securing the contract was a novel construction method known as form blocks, which reduces the time to build.

"They won the tender quite handsomely. The method is much easier, and takes at least 20% off construction time, so the time to market is shortened," said Polkinghorne.

Mobilisation has begun and the project is expected to be completed in 12 months.
