Doosan bags record 4,000MW coal plant contract

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has won a US $1.22 billion (INR48.8 billion) contract to build the world's largest coal power plant in Mundra in the western Indian state of Gujarat.

Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction has won a US $1.22 billion (INR48.8 billion) contract to build the world's largest coal power plant in Mundra in the western Indian state of Gujarat. The deal was signed with Tata Power, a private Indian company.

The Ultra Mega Power Project (UMPP) will use five 800MW boilers to produce 4,000MW of electricity for four million people in five Indian states. The Indian government reportedly wants to build nine large-scale power plants worth $30 billion by 2016.
