Young Architect is GAJ rising star
GAJ pick up two at the Middle East Architect Awards
British firm Godwin Austen Johnson picked up two awards last night in Dubai.
GAJ won Best Residential Project at the Middle East Architect Awards 2010, while one of the firm’s rising stars, Ignacio Gomez, won Best Young Architect.
Gomez beat tough opposition from a slew of young architects from RMJM, Atkins and Norr Consultants to clinch the award, while the project he worked on in Egypt won GAJ its second of the night. The Red Sea Riviera, a huge residential and hospitality project in Sharm El Sheikh, was praised highly by judges.
Commenting on the Young Architect Award, Gomez said: “I have to thank the company for this award, particularly Brian Johnson, the managing partner, and Keith Gavin, a partner at the firm. It has been especially good working for the last year and this is recognition of the company’s passion.
“GAJ has given me the opportunity to develop myself. This includes more time to think about design, and rethink certain elements and find out what makes the Middle East special. The company is very open to new ideas.
