A new facility for a leading metal coating firm began operations today in Dubai Industrial City.

United Metal Coating starts its continuous-coil coating line in its 195,000 sq-foot factory in the heart of the emirate’s base metal zone. The company will manufacture pre-painted aluminium and galvanized steel coils for building products including roofing and claddings, as well as interior false ceilings and rolling shutters.

The facility has an annual production capacity of 75,000 metric tonnes.

UMC also has a double loop slitting line to slit the painted coils into different widths as per customers’ requirements. The coil coating line has equipment imported from Germany, the UK, the US and India to ensure consistent product quality and conform to international standards such as the ECCA, EN, DIN, ASTM and JIS.

More than half of the UMC’s products from this facility will be exported to Europe with the rest sold in the Middle East, according to Souheil Hatoum, managing partner of UMC. “We implement stringent quality control systems that make us one of the leading exporters of prepainted coils from the region,” he added.

“Operating from Dubai Industrial City will make our products highly competitive as we will benefit from the top of the range facilities offered by the comprehensive industrial destination.”

Sridharan, partner and the technical manager of United Metal Coating, said: “United Metal Coating has a firm commitment towards maintaining an eco-friendly environment.

"This is the key reason for installing the most sophisticated incinerator imported from renowned German firm WYK to completely burn the solvents generated from the production, leaving no room for atmospheric pollution."

Dubai Industrial City, close to major highways and the Jebel Ali Port, is a 560 million sq-foot manufacturing complex comprising six industrial clusters for food and beverage, base metals, mineral products, chemicals, transport equipment and parts as well as machinery and mechanical equipment.

BASF, the construction chemicals supplier, and Mapei, the Italian sealant company, are two of the City’s tenants.
