Podcast: AESG's Saeed Al Abbar on Saudi Arabia and net-zero buildings
Al Abbar outlines homegrown Emirati consultancy's growth plans in latest episode of Construction Week Viewpoint
In the latest episode of Construction Week Viewpoint, Saeed Al Abbar, managing director of homegrown Emirati engineering consultancy AESG, shares his insights on the shifting roles of construction consultancies in the GCC; the ever-pressing need to build greener developments; and his work as chairman of Emirates Green Building Council on net-zero developments.
Sitting down with Jack Ball, Construction Week's senior reporter, Al Abbar also discusses AESG's decision to open a full-time office in Saudi Arabia in May 2018, adding to its roster of offices in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and London.
"Whilst we opened the office [in Saudi Arabia] last year, AESG had been working in Saudi for a number of years before that," he explained.
"We were working on a number of these gigaprojects, as they're called, and [we were] having more of a presence there.
"So it made sense that we needed to have a permanent base there; to have a licensed office where people are [working] full-time [...] on delivering these fantastic schemes for a number of clients from the public and private sectors."
