India-headquartered CP Kukreja Architects – which has worked on projects such as JW Marriott Hotel Delhi, Jawaharlal Nehru University – New Delhi, The Lalit, Goa, and Gautam Buddha University in Greater Noida – has acquired the local arm of Chicago’s DBHMS, including its sustainability and engineering verticals, according to Construction Week’s sister title, Construction Week India.

The Illinois practice’s portfolio, meanwhile, includes Chinatown Branch Chicago Public Library; University of Chicago’s Laboratory of Astrophysics and Space Research and its Saieh Hall for Economics; and Albany Park Branch Chicago Public Library. In India, the American company has helped design Nalanda University. MEET THE MOST INFLUENTIAL INDIANS IN MIDDLE EAST CONSTRUCTION

According to CW India’s report, the acquisition is expected to support CP Kukreja Architects’ expansion in the sustainable design sector. Commenting on the development, the company’s managing principal, Dikshu C Kukreja, said green credentials would also support the firm’s expansion amid India’s drive to boost infrastructure.

“[India] is poised for unprecedented development in the years to come and it is important that the foundation of our work is based on sustainability and environmentally responsible design,” he continued.

DBHMS’s director, Sameer Divekar, added: “We feel that our capabilities in sustainability and latest engineering, combined with the robust experience of [CP Kukreja Architects] in the Indian market, will help to design next-gen, environment-friendly buildings for the citizens of the country.”
