Popular Emirati vlogger Khalid Al Ameri has published a video of his experience at a worker’s village – or ‘labour camp’ – in Dubai, which is run by UAE contracting giant Al Naboodah Construction Group.

“There has been a lot of negative news about labour camps in the Gulf region, but I wanted to visit one for myself,” Ameri says at the start of his video.

Shot during Ramadan, the video shows Ameri spending an entire day at the Al Naboodah worker’s village.

During his time, Ameri is seen sharing a meal, bus rides, and communal time with Al Naboodah’s staff that reside at the village.

Describing the video on YouTube, Ameri says: “One of the most talked about topics is the care given to the thousands of migrant workers in the Gulf. The [UAE] has signed nine international labour conventions to protect the rights of workers who come here to work hard, provide for their families and build this country into what it is today.

“I know there are organisations and people out there who will break the law and try to take advantage of people when they are most vulnerable, we have seen them in headlines, and I hope they are met with the full force of the law.

“In this video I wanted to visit a labour camp, known now as an Employee Village, which is following the law, and going above and beyond to make sure their employees are happy, this is what we saw.

“Many thanks to Al Nabooda Group for giving us the opportunity to visit your village and cover this story, it was truly inspiring to see the work you all do and the level of care you give your employees.”
